Pastor faces charge as apartment construction saga unfolds 

Calder contractor pleads not guilty to theft charge as apartment saga heats up. The matter is now before the courts.

Contractor Pastor David Toby of Calder has pleaded not guilty to a theft charge arising from a report made by a property owner who had contracted him to construct apartments in the East St. George area.

Toby appeared before the Mesopotamia Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 7, 2026, where the charge was read to him. He denied the allegation.

The prosecution alleges that 20 aluminium windows, five buckets and 25 pieces of lumber were stolen. The alleged offence stems from a complaint made by the owner of a property where Toby had been engaged as the contractor to build a number of apartments.

The matter was adjourned to August 17, 2026, when it is scheduled to be heard at the Calliaqua Magistrate’s Court for further proceedings.

As the matter remains before the courts, no findings have been made in relation to the allegations. Toby is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
