SVG Building and Loan invests in 14 students’ educational journey

The St. Vincent Building and Loan Association (SVBLA) has invested in the education of 14 students for the 2026/2027 academic year, awarding scholarships and bursaries to help them pursue their academic ambitions while encouraging them to make the most of the opportunity.

The awards were presented during a ceremony held on Thursday at the association’s headquarters in Kingstown under the theme, “Potential is not enough: Build it, own your story.” The recipients include three first-time scholarship awardees and 11 bursary recipients.

The scholarship recipients are Akili Neverson, who was unable to attend the ceremony, Bryce Dalzine and Jesiah Gibson. All three will attend the St. Vincent Grammar School. The 11 bursary recipients will receive financial support through to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, provided they maintain good behaviour and an academic average of at least 65 per cent. Merit-based scholarships range from EC$1,200 annually in Forms Four and Five to EC$1,400 at the college level.

The students will also have access to SVBLA’s internship programme, giving them the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience while continuing their education.

Feature speaker Demion McTair told the recipients that the awards represented more than recognition for their academic performance.

“A scholarship is not a finish line. It is an invitation,” he said, encouraging the students to view the support as an investment in their future and a responsibility to develop their potential through hard work and perseverance.

Using the image of a seed growing into a tree, McTair reminded the students that ability alone is not enough to achieve success.

“A seed has the potential to become a tree, but it must be planted, watered, protected and given time to grow,” he said, urging the awardees to nurture their talents and one day use their success to uplift others.
