Culture Pot returns to Calliaqua after years-long absence

Kingstown St. Vincent and the Grenadines September 22, 2026-The East St. George Steering Committee is preparing to relaunch the Calliaqua Culture Pot, following what organizers describe as years of requests from residents and supporters for the event’s return.

Chairman Akin John says the cultural showcase will resume on Friday, September 25th, at the Culture Pot Square in Calliaqua, under the theme “One Pot, Many Flavours, A Taste of Agriculture.”

According to John, the return of Culture Pot is being driven by public demand and memories of what the event represented when it first began in the late 1990s. He says residents from Calliaqua, East St. George and the wider country have repeatedly called for the event to be revived.

John says the event previously provided a platform for cultural performers to showcase their talents while giving patrons an opportunity to enjoy local cuisine and community interaction. He added that Culture Pot helped bring together people of different generations in a safe and welcoming environment centered on Vincentian culture.

The relaunch will feature a formal opening programme and performances from cultural practitioners, including poetry, spoken word, steel pan, calypso, soca and entertainment from popular DJs.

John says the committee is working closely with the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force and has received support from the Calliaqua Police Station to help ensure a safe event.

The town of Calliaqua has long been regarded as one of the cultural centres of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The town has historically been associated with calypso, steel pan, community festivals and grassroots cultural activities. Itslocation in East St. George, it has also served as a gathering point for cultural and community events that attract people from surrounding villages near and far.
