Expectant Mothers Receive Prenatal Massage Care in Mother’s Day Initiative

Nine expectant mothers in the Belair district received prenatal massage care during a Mother’s Day initiative hosted by the SVG School of Continuing Education in collaboration with the Belair Health Centre.

The initiative took place on May 7 at the Belair Health Centre and brought together student therapists and healthcare professionals to offer complimentary prenatal massage sessions to pregnant patients, “creating a moment of relaxation, appreciation, and holistic care during an important stage of life,” the School of Continuing Education said.

Under the supervision of trained instructors and healthcare staff, student therapists delivered gentle prenatal massage techniques tailored to the needs of pregnancy. The sessions were designed to support maternal well-being by addressing common discomforts such as back pain, swelling, and muscle tension, while also providing a calming and restorative experience for participants.

The practical sessions formed part of the School of Continuing Education’s applied training approach, which allows students to develop hands-on skills in real healthcare environments under professional guidance.

“This initiative allows our students to gain meaningful, supervised experience while also giving back to the community in a very direct way,” said Chief Operating Officer of the SVG School of Continuing Education, Ms. Nzinga Sergeant.

Staff at the Belair Health Centre also welcomed the collaboration, noting that partnerships like these strengthen the connection between education and healthcare, while directly benefiting patients.

“We are pleased to partner in initiatives like this that promote maternal wellness and provide added support to our expectant mothers,” said Staff Nurse Zakiyah Mofford.

The organisers expressed hope that this initiative will become an annual tradition, continuing to uplift mothers and families across the community for years to come.
