The St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) Red Cross Society has launched a month of humanitarian outreach activities ahead of World Red Cross Day 2026, which will be observed on Friday, 8th May, under the global theme “Keeping Humanity Alive.”

The organisation has outlined a series of community-focused initiatives designed to support vulnerable groups across the country during the commemorative period.

The SVG Red Cross stated that activities for this year’s observance began on Sunday, 3rd May, with volunteers attending services at their respective local churches. On the same day, approximately 160 indigent persons in Kingstown received hot meals as part of early outreach efforts. In addition, school groups and youth volunteers are expected to distribute gift baskets to elderly residents within their communities as part of the lead-up activities.

The Society noted that the observance will extend throughout the month of May, with activities decentralised across various communities nationwide. This approach, it said, is particularly significant given current environmental challenges, including a period of drought affecting St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as the approaching hurricane season.

This year’s theme aligns with one of the organisation’s key priority areas, which focuses on promoting inclusion and social cohesion through targeted support for marginalised groups and strengthened community engagement.

On World Red Cross Day, President Mr. Alston Anderson is expected to deliver an address reflecting on the organisation’s humanitarian work and continued commitment to service.

The SVG Red Cross Society said it continues to emphasise its role in delivering humanitarian assistance and strengthening resilience within communities across the nation.
