A Grenadian omnibus driver must pay EC$1,200 or spend three months in prison after admitting to dangerous driving on the Richmond Hill Public Road on Friday.

Quormie N. Skeete, of Grand Anse, Grenada, was arrested and charged by the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) following an incident earlier that same day.

According to police, investigations revealed that Skeete drove motor vehicle HAA-778 along the Richmond Hill Public Road in a manner that put public safety at risk.

He appeared before the Mesopotamia Magistrate’s Court on Friday, October 23, and pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court ordered him to pay EC$500 forthwith, with the remaining EC$700 due by Wednesday, October 28. Should he fail to pay, he will serve three months at His Majesty’s Prison.

The case comes as St Vincent and the Grenadines welcomes visitors from across the region and beyond for the country’s Independence celebrations, and the police have used it to send a clear message: the law applies to everyone on Vincentian roads.

In its statement, the RSVGPF reminded citizens, residents and visitors alike to abide by the laws of the country.

The Traffic Department, in particular, is urging motorists to drive responsibly, obey traffic signs and directions, and avoid dangerous overtaking. It is also calling on drivers to show patience and courtesy, especially as traffic is expected to increase over the holiday period.

The police wished everyone a happy and safe Independence.
