Here is the preliminary list of SVG’s homicides so far for 2026

Before the list of homicides below, here is some preliminary analysis of the situation, based on our documented figures. 

These are One News SVG figures compiled from publicly available press release from the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force as well as media reports.

This number may be subject to change (upward) due to ongoing police investigations into various matters.

31 lives lost: What the 2026 homicide figures reveal about violence in SVG

St Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded 31 homicide deaths between January 7 and August 6, 2026, according to a preliminary One News SVG review of police information and reports on the individual cases.

The numbers paint a stark picture: guns have been responsible for the overwhelming majority of the deaths.

At least 24 of the 31 victims, 77.4 per cent, were killed by gunfire. Put another way, roughly three out of every four people in the register died from gunshot injuries. The remaining deaths resulted from incidents involving stabbing, chopping, blunt-force trauma, strangulation and an assault-related death.

The figures also show that lethal violence has touched a remarkably broad section of the population.

Of the 31 victims, ages have been established for 28. Those victims ranged from 19 to 84 years old, with an average age of approximately 42.3 years and a median age of 36 years.

The youngest victim with a confirmed age was 19-year-old Perrance Matthews, while the oldest was 84-year-old farmer Lida Lewis. Six victims whose ages are known were aged 60 or older.

So while young adults feature prominently in the register, the killings cannot simply be characterised as violence among young men. Elderly residents have also been among those who lost their lives.

The gender divide is even more pronounced.

Twenty-nine of the 31 victims were male. Two were female. Men therefore account for approximately 94 per cent of the homicide victims in the current register.

The two women included in the count are Roseclair Williams and Rayjean Carter. The death of Zariah Lewis, who died following an incident on Union Island, has been kept outside the 31 because the circumstances surrounding her death have not been sufficiently established to classify it as a homicide. Her case is being tracked separately as a suspected homicide.

Where are the killings occurring?

The deaths are also far from evenly distributed geographically. The data also suggests that homicides are concentrated within a relatively small number of communities.

A preliminary look at the register points to repeated killings in Kingstown and the communities forming the wider urban corridor around the capital. West Kingstown – Stoney Ground, Lowmans Hill, Ottley Hall, and Central Kingstown all feature in the register.

The Leeward corridor has also experienced repeated fatal violence, with cases recorded in Campden Park, Buccament, Layou, Barrouallie and Lowmans Leeward.

Further east and into the central part of the country, Diamond, Mesopotamia, Belair, Golden Vale, Mount Young, and Peruvian Vale have also recorded killings.

The pattern does not, by itself, establish that these communities are the country’s most dangerous areas. A proper crime hotspot analysis would require official police data, population figures and the locations of all reported violent offences, not just homicides.

But the repetition of certain communities in the homicide register is difficult to ignore.

A small number of attacks, a large share of the deaths

Multiple-victim attacks have also had a significant effect on the country’s homicide total.

The double homicide in Belair, the two separate killings recorded in West Kingstown and Lowmans Hill on March 25, the Stoney Ground double homicide and the triple killing on July 17 collectively claimed nine lives.

That means almost three in every 10 homicide victims, 29 per cent, died in incidents involving more than one victim.

The July 17 triple homicide was particularly significant. Three men; Claude John, Karon Bowens, and Giovannie Grant, were killed in the same incident.

Working people among the victims

The register also offers a glimpse into who is being killed.

The victims include labourers, farmers, vendors, a maintenance worker, a shopkeeper, a watchman and a domestic worker, along with retirees and people whose occupations have not yet been confirmed.

That profile suggests that the impact of lethal violence is being felt across ordinary communities and among people engaged in everyday work and economic activity.

One death every week

The pace of killing is perhaps the most difficult figure to overlook.

Between January 7 and August 6, the country recorded 31 homicide deaths, an average of about 4.6 deaths per month.

That is approximately one homicide death every 6.7 days.

The figure does not mean that killings occurred at a perfectly regular rate; they did not. Some periods were relatively quiet, while others saw several deaths within days of each other.

But taken together, the numbers show how frequently lethal violence has occurred during the first seven months of the year.

A preliminary count, not an official crime statistic

The One News SVG register should not be mistaken for an official government homicide count.

It is a preliminary compilation based on police information, court developments and media reports concerning individual deaths. Some cases still require confirmation of details, including medical causes of death, ages, occupations and the precise circumstances surrounding the killings.

There is also a legal distinction that must be maintained.

A homicide is not necessarily a legally established murder. The register includes deaths arising from murder allegations, manslaughter and other circumstances in which one person’s actions are suspected of causing another person’s death.

That distinction is particularly relevant in the case of Cutburt Delon Archibald, whose son was charged with manslaughter following his father’s death, and in the case of Michael Jackson, who died after being shot by police and whose death remains under investigation.

For that reason, the most accurate description of the figures is that St Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded 31 homicide deaths in 2026, based on a preliminary One News SVG review.
