The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Sustainable Development has announced a major expansion of its annual Kids’ Tourism Summer Camp, with the 2026 programme set to be delivered across four zones for the first time.
For 2026, the camp will be hosted in Kingstown, Windward, Leeward and Bequia, expanding access to children across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Sessions in Kingstown will be held on July 27 and 28, followed by Windward and Leeward on July 30 and 31, while Bequia will host the programme on August 6 and 7. All sessions will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In a recent press release, the Ministry explained that the decision to expand and decentralise the camp builds on the success of previous editions and strong participation recorded in 2025, when demand exceeded expectations. Officials said the move is intended to improve access and ensure a more equitable reach across communities, while strengthening tourism education, awareness and participation among young Vincentians.
Previously, the camp was delivered in a centralised format on mainland St. Vincent, with sessions primarily hosted at the Girl Guides Headquarters at Level Gardens in Kingstown. The 2026 expansion will see the programme delivered across multiple communities for the first time, making it more accessible to children throughout the country.
Designed for children between the ages of 8 and 14, the Kids’ Tourism Summer Camp aims to foster an appreciation of the country’s tourism industry, natural environment, culture and heritage.
Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including field trips, hikes, arts and crafts, tourism talks and other interactive learning experiences.
Speaking on the expansion, Director of Tourism Mrs. Faylene King said the initiative is aimed at sustaining the programme’s momentum while ensuring more children benefit directly from the experience.
“The overwhelming response to last year’s camp reinforced the value of investing in tourism education at an early age,” Mrs. King said. “This year, we are excited to bring the programme directly into communities across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, ensuring that more children can benefit from this enriching experience. By decentralising the camp, we are not only increasing access but also nurturing a new generation of tourism ambassadors who understand, appreciate and can contribute to the sustainable development of our country.”
The Ministry said the Kids’ Tourism Summer Camp forms part of its wider efforts to promote tourism awareness among young people, while encouraging national pride, environmental stewardship and community engagement.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their children early, as spaces are limited. For further information, persons may contact the Department of Tourism at [email protected] or telephone (784) 456-1111 ext. 3428.
