The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says work is under way to help a Vincentian man stranded in France return home safely, and that his case remains a priority.
In a press release issued on Monday, 2 November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and Diaspora Affairs said it was aware of the circumstances surrounding Shaquille King, a national of St Vincent and the Grenadines. It said efforts are ongoing to facilitate his “safe and timely return” to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
According to the Ministry, the St Vincent and the Grenadines High Commission to the United Kingdom has been actively working to facilitate the issuance of an Emergency Travel Document for Mr King. The High Commission is also liaising with the relevant British authorities in Paris to monitor his welfare and to provide assistance and coordination throughout the process.
The Ministry said it recognises the concerns that can arise in situations of this kind. It sought to reassure Mr King, his family and the wider public that his situation remains a priority.
The release was sent to local media houses on Monday evening by the Ministry’s Communications Officer, Claris-Ann Joseph, who asked for it to be included in news bulletins.
Mr King has been without a passport since 24 September, when it went missing in Basel, Switzerland. Documents seen by One News SVG show that on 22 October the High Commission informed him that his application for an Emergency Travel Document had been sent to the Chief Immigration Officer for approval.
The Ministry’s statement did not say whether that approval has been granted, or give a timeline for when Mr King is expected to return home.
Members of the public seeking further information can contact the Ministry on 784-456-2060.
One News SVG will provide further details on this story in a follow-up report.
