A mother and daughter from Vermont have been granted bail after appearing before the Serious Offences Court on multiple charges of allegedly obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception.

Police said 35-year-old Morenika Cottle, a Votes Clerk, and her mother, 56-year-old Lisby Cottle, who is unemployed, were arrested and charged on October 4 in connection with a number of alleged deception offences.

According to the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, Morenika Cottle faces several counts of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception. Investigators allege the offences involved a number of complainants and monetary transactions that took place in Kingstown on various dates during 2026.

The amounts linked to the charges against her reportedly range from EC$300 to EC$800.

Police also charged Lisby Cottle with obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception. The allegations against her relate to six separate transactions of EC$450 each, which are said to have occurred in Kingstown between March and July 2026.

Both women appeared before the Serious Offences Court on Monday, October 5, where they pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The court granted each defendant composite bail of EC$5,000 and ordered them to surrender their travel documents.

The matters have been adjourned as the court process continues.

As with all criminal proceedings, the charges remain allegations, and both women are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
