A delegation from St. Vincent and the Grenadines played an active role in regional discussions on governance, innovation and sector resilience at a major Caribbean credit union gathering in Barbados, where leaders from across the region convened to chart the future direction of the movement.
The 68th Annual International Convention and 55th Annual General Meeting of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) took place at the Wyndham Grand Barbados, Sam Lord’s Castle Resort from June 19 to 24, 2026, bringing together approximately 500 participants under the theme “People, Purpose, Prosperity: The Heart of Member Development.” The CCCU said the event focused on strengthening collaboration across the regional credit union sector while advancing innovation and financial inclusion.
According to the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Co-operative League Limited (SVG Co-operative League), its 22-member delegation engaged in a series of technical and policy discussions covering governance frameworks, financial technology, cybersecurity, member development and institutional resilience. The League added that the sessions also explored opportunities for shared services and improved operational efficiency across Caribbean credit unions.
SVG Co-operative League President Cecil Charles, addressing the Opening Ceremony, stressed the importance of maintaining strong regional partnerships and remaining grounded in co-operative principles. He said these values continue to underpin the stability and relevance of credit unions across the Caribbean, particularly in a rapidly evolving financial environment.
The CCCU Annual General Meeting formed part of the Convention, with St. Vincent and the Grenadines represented by four primary and four alternate delegates. The Vincentian delegation participated in deliberations on governance matters, organisational performance and strategic priorities for the year ahead, contributing to wider regional decision-making within the CCCU.
The SVG Co-operative League also welcomed the continued representation of Ms Miriam Roache on the CCCU Board of Directors, ensuring that St. Vincent and the Grenadines retains a voice in regional governance structures.
The Co-operative League described the Convention as a significant opportunity for leadership development and institutional learning, noting that insights gained are expected to be shared across the local credit union sector. The movement continues to play a key role in national development, with strong asset growth and rising member savings reinforcing its position within the financial landscape of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
