Three men were shot and killed in a brazen attack opposite the Central Police Station in Kingstown late Friday night, in an incident that has sent shockwaves across St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Police have confirmed that the victims are Giovanni Grant, Karon Bowens, and Claud John, following the shooting in the Chinatown area shortly before midnight on Friday, extending into the early hours of Saturday.

According to multiple well-placed sources, armed men reportedly approached the area from the seaside before opening fire. The burst of gunfire triggered panic among people nearby, with eyewitness accounts indicating that several individuals fled the scene as shots rang out.

Separate accounts circulating in the aftermath of the attack allege that some people ran towards the nearby Central Police Station seeking safety, and that officers emerged after the gunfire had ceased.

Sources further indicated that the attackers fled the scene using the same seaside route after the shooting.

While police have not disclosed a motive, it is believed that Claud John may have been an unintended victim who was caught in the hail of bullets. Investigators have not officially confirmed that theory.

The killings bring the number of homicides recorded in St. Vincent and the Grenadines for 2026 to 27.

Background on two of the deceased

Court records indicate that Karon Bowens was sentenced in 2009 to three years’ imprisonment after being convicted of possessing an illegal firearm. Separately, his brother, Kyron Bowens of Ottley Hall, was among two men sentenced by the High Court in December 2020 to lengthy prison terms for armed robbery offences.

Giovanni Grant also had previous matters before the courts. Earlier this year, he was charged with wounding in connection with an alleged incident involving a 23-year-old woman in Kingstown and was granted bail pending trial, which is scheduled for February 2027. In a separate matter, he was charged with theft after allegedly stealing EC$100 from a farmer in Kingstown and pleaded not guilty. The status of that case has not been publicly confirmed.

In June 2023, Grant was sentenced to three years and nine months’ imprisonment after being convicted of assaulting his former girlfriend during an incident in Kingstown.

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has launched an investigation into the triple homicide. No arrests have been announced, and investigators are continuing efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.

Authorities are expected to provide additional information as the investigation progresses.
