The five men rescued after a fire aboard the fishing vessel St Vincent VII have been identified, as the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) provided further details on the incident that left one crew member dead.
According to the RSVGPF, six men departed the Tardieu Marina in Trinidad at approximately 6:00 a.m. on July 7, 2026, aboard the vessel St Vincent VII to engage in fishing activities.
During the trip, a fire reportedly caused extensive damage to the vessel, forcing all six occupants to abandon the fishing boat and board a dinghy.
The men were later located by the oil tanker MV Marvel Kite after spending nine days and nine nights at sea. The tanker subsequently contacted the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard Service, which responded and intercepted the vessel at approximately 9:06 p.m., about 11 nautical miles east-southeast of Kingstown.
The five survivors were transported to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for medical assessment and treatment. They have been identified as Shannon Mohammed, 40, of Trinidad and Tobago; Kevin Fonteillo, 47, of Trinidad and Tobago; Alex Burnley, 39, of Trinidad and Tobago; Eshawar Persard, 39, of Guyana; and Rupert Charles, 55, of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The RSVGPF confirmed that 66-year-old Trinidadian national Anthony Murray died during the ordeal and was later formally pronounced dead. His body was removed pending further investigations.
The Police Force extended condolences to Murray’s relatives and loved ones, while acknowledging the efforts of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard Service, the crew of the MV Marvel Kite, medical personnel, and all others involved in the rescue operation.
