Major Sponsorship Support, Secured for 2026-2027 Schools Sports

The 2026-2027 Schools Sports period in St Vincent and the Grenadines has received significant support from corporate sponsors and sporting organisations, helping to fund competitions and provide equipment for student-athletes throughout the academic year 2026-2027.

Speaking at the launch of the Schools Sports calendar on Monday September 14, Director of Sports Roxell John said much of the support has been provided in kind rather than through direct cash contributions.

Mr John explained that government procedures often make it easier for sponsors to contribute goods and services, including sporting equipment, uniforms and operational support for events.

Among the largest contributors is the National Lotteries Authority, which is providing approximately EC$280,000 to support track and field competitions within the Schools Sports calendar.

Mr John described the contribution as a major investment in youth development and said it would help make competitions more meaningful for participants.

Other sponsors are also providing support across a range of sporting disciplines.

According to the Director of Sports, sponsorship for basketball competitions is valued at between EC$3,000 and EC$6,000, while Subway is contributing support estimated at around EC$7,000.

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation is taking responsibility for the newly introduced female football competition and assisting with the cost of officials, a contribution Mr John estimated to be worth more than EC$20,000.

Meanwhile, RW Sporting Worl is sponsoring netballs, T-shirts and shipping costs for uniforms, with the overall value of its contribution estimated at more than EC$10,000.

The Seattle Thunderbolts are also supporting Schools Sports through the donation of netballs and assistance for cricket-related activities, with contributions valued between EC$7,000 and EC$10,000.Mr John said the sponsorship support will also allow organisers to introduce additional awards and trophies during competitions, rather than waiting until the final stages of tournaments.

The 2026 Schools Sports calendar includes several new events aimed at increasing participation and expanding opportunities for young athletes, particularly girls.

New additions include a six-a-side female football championship for primary and secondary schools, a three-on-three basketball festival for boys and girls, a female cricket talent identification festival, and a road relay competition for primary schools.

The Inter-Secondary Schools five-on-five basketball competition is also set to return after a one-year absence.

School sports activities are expected to run throughout the academic year, bringing together students from across the country in athletics, football, basketball, cricket, netball, and other disciplines.
