A 16-member contingent from the Barbados Cadet Corps has joined the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cadet Force (SVGCF) for its 90th Anniversary Camp, strengthening regional ties while giving young people from both countries the opportunity to train and learn together.

The Barbadian contingent arrived in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on July 11, 2026, after accepting an invitation to participate in the anniversary camp. They have since joined local cadets and officers in a programme designed to develop leadership, discipline and teamwork.

The camp brings together cadets from all operational units of the SVG Cadet Force, including North Leeward, Barrouallie, Kingstown West, Kingstown East, Georgetown, Marriaqua, Bequia, the St. Clair Dacon Secondary School Unit, the Marine Unit, the Search and Rescue Medical Unit (SARMU) and the SVG Cadet Force Band.

Throughout the camp, participants are engaged in a challenging and rewarding programme that includes leadership development, drill, fieldcraft, weapons training, physical training, disaster preparedness, mass-casualty response, small-engine operation, first aid, survival and adventurous training, team-building exercises, cultural exchange and community service.

The SVG Cadet Force said the activities are designed to develop confident, disciplined and responsible young leaders while fostering lifelong friendships and regional cooperation.

The participation of cadets from every operational unit reflects the national reach of the Cadet Force, while the inclusion of the Barbados Cadet Corps highlights the importance of regional partnerships in youth development across the Caribbean.

The anniversary celebrations also include a Sports Day at the Arnos Vale Playing Field on Saturday, July 18, 2026,  bringing together cadets from St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Barbados for a series of athletic events, novelty competitions and military-style challenges.

The 90th anniversary is being observed under the theme, “90 Years of Discipline, Patriotism and Honour: Celebrating Our Past, Strengthening Our Present, and Shaping Our Future.”

The SVG Cadet Force said it remains committed to empowering young people through leadership, discipline, citizenship and service while continuing to build partnerships that contribute to national and regional development.
