Aniek Stapleton of Evesham Methodist School and Zion Lewis of St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown secured the National Junior Calypso Monarch titles in the primary and secondary school categories, respectively.
In the Primary School competition, Aniek Stapleton triumphed with her song “Cyber Dream,” while in the Secondary School category, Zion Lewis won with “Don’t Get Caught Up.”
The event took place at Victoria Park on 1 July under the theme: “Young Voices, Big Vibes”.
Primary School Calypso Competition
Aniek Stapleton, the winner in the Primary School category, amassed a total of 402 points.
In second place was Divyne Hackshaw “Skye” of Argyle Roman Catholic School with “No Rush to Grow,” scoring 399 points.
Third place went to Lylanie Bascombe of Greiggs Primary School with her song “My Mommy,” earning 375 points.
Other competitors in the primary school calypso category included Valisha Johnson of Tourama Government School with “Pride & Joy,” Hailey Small of South Rivers Methodist with “Never Me Can You Destroy,” Akira Browne of Evesham Methodist School with “Education Revolution; What Happen to Bob?,” Kataleya Nero of Barrouallie Anglican School with “True Champions,” and Divine Walters of Sandy Bay Government School with “Under the Pressure.”
Secondary School Calypso Competition
Zion Lewis won the Secondary School competition with an impressive 399 points, surpassing seven other competitors.
In second place was Kericka McCaul of St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua with “One Mother’s Cry,” scoring 388 points.
Third place was awarded to Princess “Lexi” Alexcia DeShong of Sandy Bay Secondary School with “Tell Me Why,” earning 378 points.
Other contestants included Casnique Williams of Georgetown Secondary School with “Treat Me Right,” Jaiden Bulze of St Vincent’s Grammar School with “Build Back the Family,” Ameerah Glasgow of St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown with “Love is the Key,” Jolicia Byron of Sandy Bay Secondary School with “Thank You Iron Man,” and Omani Cupid of Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia with “Omani for Prime Minister.”
