A 31-year-old mechanic from St Lucia will appear before the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court. He is accused of pulling at a police officer’s shirt and ripping it during an incident in Arnos Vale last week.

Police say they arrested Niguel Felix on Saturday 24 October and charged him with three offences: assault, obstructing a police officer in the execution of his duty, and damage to property.

The offences are alleged to have happened on Friday 23 October in Arnos Vale.

The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force issued a release on Monday. It says investigators found that Felix allegedly assaulted the officer by pulling at his regulation shirt while the officer was carrying out his lawful duties. The obstruction charge arises from the same act.

Felix is also accused of damaging, without lawful excuse, one white regulation shirt valued at EC$175. Police say he ripped it with his hand. The shirt belongs to the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The release did not say what led to the encounter between Felix and the officer. It also gave no date for his court appearance.

Felix is expected to answer the charges before the Kingstown Magistrate Court.

Like anyone charged with an offence, he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
