The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) says it has taken internal action following the circulation of a video showing an interaction between a police officer and several young people, amid growing public discussion about the incident.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police High Command said it had reviewed the information available and taken what it described as “appropriate internal action”. However, the force did not disclose the nature of the action or provide further details about the incident.

The RSVGPF reaffirmed its expectation that all officers conduct themselves lawfully, professionally and with restraint, even in challenging situations.

At the same time, the police reminded members of the public that they are expected to comply with lawful instructions and avoid obstructing officers while they are carrying out their duties.

“The RSVGPF remains accountable to the public it serves and committed to meeting the standards expected of a professional police service,” the statement said.

The statement comes as the video continues to circulate on social media, prompting public discussion about the conduct of those involved.

The police have not indicated whether any further information will be released.
