The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) is taking its campaign for Vincy Mas 2027 to Vincentians abroad, with Minister of Sports, Culture and the Creative Industries Kaschaka Cupid heading to New York this week to build support for next year’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Cupid will travel as part of a CDC delegation that includes Deputy Chairman Colin Graham and Chief Executive Officer Rodney Small.
The delegation will participate in the Vincy Day Picnic in New York on Saturday, August 15, 2026, one of the largest annual gatherings of Vincentians in the diaspora.
The New York engagement is part of the CDC’s wider effort to strengthen ties with Vincentians overseas, encourage greater participation in Vincy Mas 2027 and introduce the festival to new audiences.
The delegation is also scheduled to meet with organisers of the Vincy Day Picnic and other stakeholders, while a media briefing will be held on Friday, August 14, to provide an update on plans for Vincy Mas 2027 and activities being developed under the theme “Road To 50.”
Vincy Mas 2027 will commemorate 50 years since St Vincent and the Grenadines moved its Carnival celebrations from the traditional pre-Lenten period to the June-July season in 1977.
The CDC intends to use the anniversary to celebrate the evolution of Vincy Mas and recognise the contribution of cultural practitioners over the past five decades, while encouraging Vincentians at home and abroad to participate in the celebrations.
But the campaign is also looking beyond the Vincentian community.
The CDC says it wants to attract people who have never experienced Vincy Mas or visited St Vincent and the Grenadines, using the festival to showcase the country’s music, mas, culture, heritage and hospitality.
According to the corporation, the campaign will “introduce new audiences to the country’s music, mas, culture, heritage and hospitality”, while promoting St Vincent and the Grenadines as a cultural and tourism destination.
The New York visit therefore forms part of a broader push to use Vincy Mas 2027 as a platform for diaspora engagement, cultural promotion and tourism.
For the CDC, the 50th anniversary is an opportunity not only to look back at the development of Vincy Mas since the 1977 transition, but also to widen the festival’s reach and encourage more Vincentians overseas to return home for the celebrations.
The corporation is also seeking to build interest among people outside the Vincentian community who could become new visitors to the festival and to St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The New York engagement marks an early step in that wider campaign as preparations continue for Vincy Mas 2027.
